About Tom Valdez

A grandfather, storyteller, and backyard explorer

I'm Tom Valdez — and the adventures in this series are real. The rocks we found, the seed pods that looked like snakes, the lilac blossoms that smelled like spring rain — all of it happened in my own backyard on a real afternoon with my real grandchildren.

I started writing these stories because I wanted Sophia, Levi, and Caleb to always remember what it felt like to explore the world with Grandpa by their side — and to know that God hides wonder in the simplest, most ordinary places.

The Grandpa's Backyard Adventures series grew out of that afternoon. As my family grows, so does the series — with each grandchild joining the adventure in their own time.
